Rufus Burnett was married in Tuscaloosa County on 21 Dec 1884 to Ruth Caroline Burnett. They lived in Bessemer,Jefferson County, Al. They had a son, Corp. Usry Burnett # 56636210, who was born in 1894 and was killed in France in the Battle of Croix Rouge Farm on 26 Jul 1918. He was a member of the 167th Infantry Regiment, 42nd Rainbow Division. A memorial plaque bearing his name is attached to the Doughboy Monument in Bessemer, Jefferson County, Al. Another plague on the Rainbow viaduct (21st street in Birmingham), also bears his name. He is buried in France. Ruth returned from a visit to France on 02 Oct 1930 aboard the passenger ship Republic.
