Joseph Woolfenden was born on 9 February 1912 at the Woolfenden farm at Kopp, Virginia. By 1935 Joe was a resident of Washington, D.C. The 1940 U.S. Census show that his occupation was as a chauffeur .
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Records show that he was a private at Fort Meyer, Virginia on 14 August 1942. Joseph was a member of the Kenneth H. Nash Post 8, American Legion, at his death in 1973.

Woolfenden, Joseph E.
Suddenly, on Friday, October 5, 1973, at his residence, Joseph E. Woolfenden, of Southeast Washington, D.C., beloved brother of Anna Cameron, Cline W. Cornell and Julia A. Kurfees; devoted friend of Mildred L. Blandi. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Lee Funeral Home, 4th Street and Massachusetts Ave., N.E., from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, Monday, where services will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 10 am. Interment at Belle Haven Cemetery, Quantico, Virginia.

The officers and members of Kenneth H. Nash Post No. 8, The American Legion, are hereby notified of the passing of comrade Joseph E. Woolfenden. Legion services will be conducted at the Lee Funeral Home, 4th and Mass. Ave. N.E., Monday evening, October 8, 1973 at 8 pm. Members are requested to attend.
