Mountain View Rites Held For Area Pioneer
Mrs. W.D. Delk, pioneer resident of the community northwest of Carnegie, died in her sleep about 1 p.m. Monday. She had gone to church Sunday night and upon returning home became slightly ill before retiring.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mountain View Missionary Baptist church with Elder Raymond Payne officiating. Burial was in the Sharon cemetery, eight miles north of Gotebo.
Gertrude, daughter of Will and Mary Belle Allen, was born April 17, 1886, in Searcy county, Arkansas, near St. Joe. She spent her early life in the St. Joe community and on June 5, 1902, was married to William D. Delk. Two sons were born to them.
In September, 1904, they moved to Washita county, settling five miles northeast of Mountain View. Her husband preceded her in death March 15, 1957. Mrs. Delk had been a member of the Baptist church since her youth and at the time of her death was a member of the Mountain View Missionary Baptist church.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond Delk of Clinton, and Omer Delk of Route 2, Carnegie, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. J.J. McDowell of Norman, one half-brother, R.E. Allen of St. Joe, several nieces and nephews.
