George A. Green was one of the early pioneers of California and Nevada. He moved initially to Yuba County, CA in 1851, where his father Amos Green was already established in lumber and mining industry. In 1849, during the early gold rush, Amos Green moved out to California. When Aurora and Bodie gold was discovered, they built a mill on the Green river in the early 1860's in order to furnish the mining towns with the much-needed lumber. George Green was one of the early Esmerelda County Commissioners in the new Nevada State. He raised 6 children and lived in the 9 Mile Ranch Home that Mark Twain mentioned in his book "Roughing it".
