| Birth: | Apr. 8, 1921 | | Death: | Aug. 30, 2002 |  John became known as Jack at a young age. He was with his uncle (John) Jack Shere so much people started calling them Big Jack and Little Jack. Jack was born and raised in Tampico, IL and graduated Tampico High School on May 28, 1937. He later graduated from Moline Business College. He and Arlene had three children (one died in infancy) and the family lived in Prophetstown, IL from 1963-2002. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 11th and the 101st Airborne. He worked at an oil refinery in Salem, NE and this is when he met Arlene. He and Arlene were married 16 Aug 1941 in Salem, Richardson Co., Nebraska. Later, he was an industrial engineer, last employed at Sears Manufacturing, Davenport, IA, where he retired in 1986. He was a member of the Prophetstown American Legion Post and the Prophet Hills Country Club in Prophetstown, IL, where he enjoyed golf and playing cards. He also enjoyed fishing. Jack died at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Funeral services were held at Garland Funeral Home, Tampico, IL with the Rev. Ralph I. Carr, pastor of Tampico United Methodist Church officiating and burial at Tampico Memorial Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter. He is buried next to wife Arlene and currently the cemetery register has them listed with the last name of Knob. Family links: Spouse: Arlene M. Curtis Kolb (1919 - 2002)* *Point here for explanation
