Sherman Lusky Gray was born July 9, 1922 to Richard Lusky and Alice Lucinda Willis Gray east of Elkhart, Texas on Grapeland Road. He was the fifth child born in the family and the second son. The oldest child, a female daughter, was born July 19, 1914, and lived one day. Sherman Lusky was welcomed home by oldest living sister Nora Azalee Gray, who was born in 1915, second oldest living sister Opal Murriel Gray, who was born in 1916, older brother Cecil Newell, who was born in 1918, and younger sister, Ava Maxine, who was born in 1924.

Sherman Lusky Gray lived five years, 3 months, and 27 days. He died October, 31, 1927 of tonsillitis according to his Texas Death Certificate in Montgomerty County near Conroe, Texas.

He was buried November 1, 1927 in the family plot at Antrim Cemetery, northwest of Grapeland, Texas in Houston County. The family plot included Sherman Lusky Gray's maternal grandparents John Pinckney Willis and Lucy Jane Lamb Willis, Sherman Lusky's oldest sister, unnamed female Gray, who lived and died in 1914, and Charles Dewey Willis, Sherman Lusky's uncle, a son of John P. and Lucy J. L. Willis, who died eight years earlier in 1919 at the age of 21.

Richard Lusky Gray was survived by his parents, two older sisters, an older brother, and a younger sister, plus many aunts, undcles, and cousins on the Gray and Willis sides of his family.
