Mr. Fred H. Beachley 83, Middletown, died March 4, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Janice Gouker Beachley for 62 years.
Born March 18, 1930 he was a son of the late Martin Singelton and Charlotte Holter Beachley.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Sowers and husband Randy, Marcia Bowers and husband John, four grandchildren, Scott Montgomery, Abigail Brusco and husband Tony, Andrew Montgomery and wife Trisha, Benjamin Sowers and wife Kate, nine great-grandchildren, Mykenzie and Jaxxon Montgomery, Gabriel and Sophia Brusco, Jake and Grant Montgomery, and Samuel, Jeremiah and Elijah Sowers.
Also surviving are three sisters Regina Ahalt and husband Maurice, Gladys Smith, Becky Guyton and husband Merle, sisters-in-law Elaine Cosgrave, Selvia Gouker and brother-in-law Ralph Gouker and
he was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Bidle and husband Richard, one brother M. Richard Beachley and wife Dolly, brothers-in-law Charles Gouker, Charles U. Smith, Perry Cosgrave and sister-in-law Anna Mae Gouker.
He grew up on his family's farm Middletown Valley
farm and was active in 4_H, FFA and Grange. In 1950 he represented Maryland in the national 4-H club in Chicago for his tractor maintenance and driving skills.
He was a life member of Christ Reformed Church in Middletown where he served on the consistory and cemetery board where he was treasurer for 20 years.
He joined Frederick County Farm Bureau in 1965. He was a charter member of the Frederick County Farm Museum and served as president of the organization where he was an active member on a number of committees, including moving the bank barn from the Montevue property to the Rose Hill Manor location and securing other buildings and displays for the barns.
Fred served as a Catoctin Soil Conservation from 1981 until present. He was active in the restoration of the Thrasher farm, Clearwater project, Moser farm, and annual Envirothon.
The family will receive friends on Thursday March 6 from 4 to 8 PM in the chapel of Christ Reformed Church, 12 S. Church St., Middletown.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on March 7 from Christ Reformed Church. Friends may also call one hour prior to the church service.
