Husband of Charlotte Kreider Beyer. "Mr. Harold", as he was known to all the children in the village of Oak Hill, in Southern Lancaster County, would play Santa Claus to the neighborhood children each year, having had no children of his own. He would come 'round on Christmas Eve in his Santa suit, completely disguised and looking every bit like Santa ought to, having called ahead to make sure parents were ready, and he would start shaking some sleigh bells and "ho-ho-ho-ing" before he got to the door, so that the kids inside would hear him coming. He carried a large sack filled with goodies, and would give each child a gift, with the instructions that they had to go to bed when their parents told them to, so that he could come back with their main presents later. As a result, "Mr. Harold" single-handedly had a group of children believing in Santa long past when most other kids had stopped. It was a sad day when Santa died in the Oak Hill house he had been born in, that had been built by his grandfather.
