Willie Carter "Bill" Asbell Sr. of Wedowee, Alabama passed away July 3, 2007, in Carrollton, Georgia. Mr. Asbell was born on February 20, 1926, in Gainesville, Florida, graduated from Gainesville High School, and attended the University of Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1983 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Gainesville Has-Beens Club, whose members attended Gainesville schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Gainesville. He was an avid Gator fan. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty Asbell, sons, W.C. (Butch) Asbell, Jr., Robert D. Asbell, Mark D. Asbell, all of Gainesville, Michael and Nancy Lucius, of Wedowee, Alabama, daughter Cheryl Wheeler, of Sarasota, a brother, Ferrell Asbell, of Gainesville, and a sister, Sylvia Duer, of Cassellberry, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on July 9, 2007, at Forest Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Michael and Nancy Lucius officiating. Interment followed at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East in the Military Garden of Honor with the Navy providing military funeral honors. Published in Gainesville Sun from July 8 to July 9, 2007.
