Aged Capitalist Passed Away Today At His Beautiful Vineyard Property West of Oakville.
John Benson, the aged capitalist, died today after a long illness at his beautiful country home near Oakville.
Deceased was over eighty years of age.
Mr. Benson spent the greater part of his life in San Francisco, where he was a well-known club man, but some four ago he retired to his Napa valley vineyard, managed for so many years by Thos. Williams, and there his last days were spent.
Notice of the time of funeral will be given later."

John Benson, who of the past four years has been in ill health at his beautiful country home near Oakville, passed away in death yesterday. He was over eighty years of age.
Mr. Benson in the past had been a well known club man and capitalist of San Francisco. With the coming of ill health attendant upon old age he retired to his country home in this valley, and it was here that his last days were spent.
The notice of time of funeral will be announced later."

John Benson of Oakville Remembers Friends and Employes.
The will of the late John Benson, who passed away at his farm, "Far Niente," near Oakville, February 10, was filed in the County Clerk's office for probate yesterday afternoon. The will is holographic in character, and is dated April 15, 1907.
The instrument names Rufus Buck of Dawson, Yukon Territory, as a beneficiary to the extent of $10,000.
Thomas Williams, who has long been Superintendent of the farm at Oakville, is left the sum of $5,000.
"To my faithful nurse and attendant, Mrs. M. B. Bennison," is left the sum of $5,000.
All the rest of the property of whatever form and nature, is willed to the nieces of the deceased, the Misses Josephine M. Johnson and Virginia W. Johnson.
James A. White of San Francisco is named as executor of the estate to serve without bonds, or in case he cannot serve in that capacity, Ernest A. Leigh is named in his stead. The executor is empowered in the document to sell any or all real estate of the deceased at either public or private sale.
To the will is annex a codicil. It leaves to James A. White the amount of $2000 as a token of friendship and as compensation for services as executor.
In addition to these bequests Benson adds another clause giving to Touey Ah Lee, his Chinese cook, the sum of $500.
A petition for the probate of the will was also filed in the office of the County Clerk Thursday by James A. White. It states that the estate consists of real and personal property in Napa county and in the city of San Francisco. The value of the estate is unknown, but the petition affirms that the value of the property exceeds $10,000. The residences of the beneficiaries are named as follows:
Josephine and Virginia Johnson, Pension de Nice, Viareggio, Italy.
Rufus Buck, Seattle, Washington.
Thomas Williams, Oakville, Cal.
Mrs. M. B. Bennison, Oakville, Cal.
James A. White, 2928 Jackson St., San Francisco.
Tuey Ah Lee, Oakville, Cal.
Charles B. Marks of San Francisco is attorney for the petitioner."
