Birth: Sep. 16, 1917
New Mexico, USA
Death: Oct. 4, 1944, France

Jose was with the 180th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division (The Thunderbird Division). During WWII the 45th Infantry Division made amphibious landings at Sicily, Anzio, and Salerno. The division had a key role in the liberation of Italy. On 15 Aug 1944, the Division made another amphibious landing at Ste. Maxime, France (SW of Cannes); Operation Dragoon. Along with Free French Forces, the Division was able to take advantage of the dispersed German Forces after the D-Day Invasion. On 30 Sep 1944,the division crossed the Moselle River and entered the western foothills of the Vosges, taking Rambervillers. It would remain in the area for a month waiting for other units to catch up before crossing the Mortagne River. Jose's date of passing places him in this area unless he had been mortally wounded prior.
