Andrew A. Amatruda, 96, of 16 Emerson Court, Litchfield, formerly of Woodbridge, passed away Sept. 27, 2008 in Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the husband of Concetta (Connie) Fusco Amatruda. Mr. Amatruda was born in New Haven Nov. 11, 1911, son of the late Joseph and Rosina Ingenito Amatruda. He graduated from William & Mary College in 1935. He was in the insurance business in New Haven for more than 50 years prior to consolidating with the Abbate Insurance Agency and was the recipient of numerous awards from The Travelers Insurance Company. He was past president and a life member of The Amity Club; served as treasurer of the New Haven Tap-Off Club; was a past president of St. Aedan's Holy Name Society and was a member of The Quinnipiack Club. He was a member of The Campania Club and served as chairman of its Fiftieth Anniversary celebration. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. John (Mary-Jo) Amatruda of New York City; a daughter, Jean (Joel) Flint Nelson of Litchfield; four grandchildren, Vanessa & Andrew Flint, Matthew Amatruda and Kristen Cowings; and two great grandchildren, Maeve & Josephine Cowings. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas T. and Dr. Frank G. Amatruda and four sisters, Eleanor (Laura) Coppola, Carmel Gorry, Elizabeth Amatruda & Carolyn DeMartino.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Road, Woodbridge Tuesday morning at 10:00. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven.
