The son of Thomas & Mary (Hartzel) Blocher, in 1860 he married Ellen J. Donnelly and fathered Mary Louise (b. 01/23/57 - married a Wright; William's obit says "Rice"), Clarissa Jane (b. 02/20/60 - married John Mickley), William (b. 10/06/62), Emory W. (b. 04/02/73, d. 01/02/87), Charles (b. ?), and a daughter whose married name was Uhler. In 1860, he was a laborer presumably living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found with certainty in that census. He stood 6' 2" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted from Menallen Township to date February 28, 1865, mustered into federal service that same day at Chambersburg as a private with Co. F, 91st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 10, 1865.
In 1890, he lived in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County, but later moved to Biglerville, Adams County. He died at age 70-4-26 at his daughter Louise's home in Tyrone Township, Adams County.
