Martha Jane Beidler, of Chambersburg and formerly of Biglerville, entered into Heavenly rest February 22.
She was a daughter of the late Robert Israel and Mary Catherine Sheely Garretson.
Mrs. Beidler was a graduate of Gettysburg College and did post graduate work at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Prior to her marriage in 1935, she taught at the Cashtown Elementary School. In her later years, Mrs. Beidler was employed as a hostess at the Lamp Post Inn, Gettysburg and was a substitute teacher with the Upper Adams School District. She was raised in the Quaker faith and became a life-long member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church at the time of her marriage. Mrs. Beidler was a former member of the Gettysburg Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Willis Beidler, who departed this life March 5, 1957, and is survived by two sons, Dr. J. Garry Beidler of Chambersburg and Dr. Philip D. Beidler of Tuscaloosa, AL; one daughter, Deborah Dean of New Smyrna Beach, FL; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Ecker of Gettysburg; and two brothers, Marshall Garretson of Gettysburg and Clifford Garretson of Warner Robbins, GA.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Garretson and Edna Eyler; two brothers, Chester Garretson and Cameron Garretson; and a newborn infant son.
