Charles Barkdoll, 72, nearly forty years a resident of Round Valley, passed away at his home here early Saturday morning, after a two weeks illness. Charles Barkdoll was born in Iowa April 15, 1867. He was married to Miss Bessie Raymond in October 1889. The family moved to California in 1897, and to Covelo in 1899. Barkdoll was a butcher, expert meatcutter, trained by years of experience, and retired only about two years ago. Last rites were held at the home Sunday afternoon, in charge of Walter Winters, and conducted by Dr J E Mooy who is acting as minister for the Federated Church until the pastor arrives. "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Sometime We'll Understand" were sung by Mrs Charles Lovell amd Mrs G R Redwine, Will and Sam Gray. Pall bearers were W D Rhoads, Will Gray, John Brightenstine, Sam Gray, Ray Walker, and Jack Jensen. Charles Barkdoll will be sorely missed by his devoted wife and two daughters: Mrs Velma Azbill and Gertrude Azbill, and one son, Raymond; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. As is the custom here, all friends came to the obsequies, each bearing flowers mostly from their own gardens in token of sympathy and respect, and then in an unusually long cortege followed this quiet, unassuming, neighborly man to his long home.
