Donald W. Balis, 86, of West Yankee Road, Morenci, passed away Thurday, Aug. 9, 2001, at the Heartland of Wauseon Nursing in Wauseon, Ohio. He was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Williams County, Ohio, the son of John and Gertie (Rininger) Balis. On Dec. 5, 1935, he married Ruth Pratt in Auburn, Ind. She survives. Don and his wife have been in the Morenci area for the past 58 years. He was a Farmer and was formerly employed at Ace Drill Corporation in Adrain form with he retired in 1974. Don served in the U.S. Army during World War ll and was a member of Morenci American Legion Post #368. Besides his wife, Ruth, Don is survived by a daughter, Celeta Balis of Morenci; two grandchildren, Bruce Simpkins and Collen Vanderpool, three sisters and one brother. Preceding Don in death were his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Graveside services for Don will be held at the Warldron Cemetery in Waldron, Mich., on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Military Rites will be donducted by Morenci American Legion Post # 368. There will be a visitation of Friday from 6-8 pm. at the Eagle Funeral Home, Charles Fink Chapel, in Morenci.
