Gertrude I. Barnes, 86, Toepka, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at a Holton hospital.
She was born Jan. 11, 1915, near Carbondale, to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Tucker. She graduated from Topeka High School and spent most of her life in Topeka. She worked at the Forbes Air Force Base Supply Depot and later was a secretary for Sunflower Sales in Topeka.
She married James W. King. They divorced. She married Raymond "Chuck" Barnes Sept. 15, 1962, in Lyndon. He survives.
Other survivors include stepsons, Jim King, Ozawkie, Bob King, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Steve Barnes, Prairie Village; stepdaughters, Margo Cuccio, Collinsville, Okla., Carolyn Williams, Topeka, and Pat Hopkins, Landrum, S.C.; a sister, Laura Shively, Osage City; 17 stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Soldier Cemetery in Soldier. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
