Another Veteran Passed Away
Silently and steadily the march of the old veterans to the great camping ground on the other shore goes on, and as the years come and go the ranks are being decimated with greater frequency. Yesterday we chronicled the death of another old veteran at the soldier's home and today we have the same sad duty to perform of another comrade. George H. Atwell, died at the home hospital this morning of paralysis and general debility aged 70 years. New York was his native state. He served as private in Co. G, 29th Ill. Inf. during the entire war, and was much esteemed by all who knew him. His admission to the home from Lincoln dates November 7, 1894. A telegram was received by Commandant Wilson this afternoon from a sister, Mrs. Ida Vance, of St. Joseph, Mo. stating that she will arrive here tomorrow morning, when arrangements will be made for the funeral.
