BRAMWELL — Billy G. Moore, 86, of Bramwell, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at the Westwood Center in Bluefield, Va.
Born Dec. 4, 1919, in Shinbrier, he was a son of the late John Graham Moore and Alpha Lee Roy Moore. In addition to his parents, a brother, five sisters, and a niece preceded him in death.
Mr. Moore had been a life-long resident of the Bramwell area. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army. A retired educator, he had earned a BA Degree from Concord College, a MA Degree from West Virginia University, and 38 additional graduate study hours from West Virginia University and Marshall University. Mr. Moore had taught in the local school systems at Bramwell High School, Anawalt School, and Oakvale High School. He had served as assistant principal at Oakvale School and as principal at Glenwood School, Matoaka High School, Fairview School, and Bramwell School. He was a member of the Mercer County Educational Association, the West Virginia Educational Association, and the National Educational Association.
Survivors include: Niece, Sue Lucas of Radford, Va.; nephew, Donald E. Mahaffey of Knoxville, Tenn.; several cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Minister Jack Johnson officiating. Former students of Mr. Moore will serve as pallbearers. Those attending the graveside services are asked to assemble at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell by 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Friends may call today from 6-8 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Bluefield, WV Rescue Squad.
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Moore family.
