Sister Catherine Griffin, 77, died Monday morning, March 7, 1988 at Holy Family Convent. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Rev. Basil Janasik OFM will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial and burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery.
Sister was born March 7, 1910 at Delaware, Ohio, daughter of the late Dennis and Mary Rues Griffin. She entered the convent in 1926 and professed her vows in 1929. Sister received her BA degree from St. Norbert College, DePere, Wisconsin and an MA degree from Catholic University, Washington, D.C., and an MA Degree from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Sister was a Teacher at St. Wendel, Cleveland, Wisconsin, Holy Rosary, Kewaunee, Wisconsin, St. Augustine, Chilton, Wisconsin, St. Andrew, Potosi, Wisconsin, St. Agnes, Mingo Junction, Ohio, St. Mary, Kaukauna, Wisconsin, Sacred Heart, Aryshire, IA, St. Patrick, Maple Grove, Rosecrans High School, Zanesville, Ohio, St. Francis. Hollandtown, Wisconsin, Holy Family Academy, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Holy Family High School, Lindsay, Nebraska, Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Holy Name High School, Escanaba, Michigan, Catholic Central High School, Steubenville, Ohio, St. Willibrord, Chicago, Illinois, Bishop Amat High School, La Puente, California and Roncalli High School, Manitowoc. Since her retirement from active duty in 1985, she has been residing at the Mother House.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Flavin of San Gabriel, California; nieces, sister Miriam Genevieve Flavin OSF of Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Sister Martin Flavin OSF of Honolulu, Hawaii; nephews, Dr. William Ferris of Columbus, Ohio and Robert Flavin of Fullerton, California.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, 4 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, where a prayer service will be 7 pm at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted with funeral arrangements.
