Mary, one of ten children, was born to Michael and Elizabeth Muir. In July of 1852, Mary along with her parents and two of her siblings immigrated from Port Greenoch Glasgow, Scotland to New York aboard the Vessel "Wacousta".
After the Civil War, Mary would eventually meet Jeremiah T. Hutchison and build a family of 6 children: Rebecca S., Archibald, Ida, Margaret, Jeremiah T. and Eliza.
Mary died from phthisis pulmonary (in the early 1900's this became restricted to tuberculosis of the lungs). Probably because Mary came from 'coal country', her father, brothers and husband worked in the mines.
