He was born March 19, 1921, in Athens County, son of the late James Harrison Cray and Lena Mae Cray.
He retired from the Frick Gallagher Manufacturing Co., Wellston, following 35 years service and was also a self-employed dairy farmer.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Albany VFW Post and the Joseph Freeman American Legion Post No. 476 at Wilkesville. In addition he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilkesville, Star Grange at Dexter, Wilkesville F&AM Orphans Friend Lodge 207 and the Wilkesville Chapter OES No. 444.
Earl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy A. Cray, and two children, William E. "Bill" Cray Jr., and Jennifer L. (Frank) Pope; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles L Cray, b. 24 Dec 1918,Ohio, d.07 Dec 1981, Gallia County, OH; and Dale H Cray b. 16 Aug 1917, Ohio, d. 2 Apr 2005, Franklin County, OH.
Services in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home at Vinton, with the Rev. Jim Snyder officiating. Burial in the Vinton Memorial Park. Military graveside rites conducted by the Wellston American Legion Post No. 371.
