Sister Julian Filey, 88, of Holy Family Convent, Rt. 5, Manitowoc, died Saturday
evening at the convent.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
A nephew, the Rev. LaVerne Flach, O.S.A. officiated with burial in the convent
cemetery.
Sister Julian, nee Josephine Filey, was born Jan. 28, 1889, at Petoskey, Mich.,
daughter of the late Martin and Cuniegunda Neubert Filey. She entered the Order
of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in 1906, professing her vows in 1911.
She served the community as a teacher at Cooperstown, Kaukauna, Sturgeon Bay,
Kellnersville, Reedsville, Cleveland, Potosi, Rhinelander, Greenleaf, Waukesha
and Neopit, Wis.; Cross Village, Ironwood, Escanaba, Manistique and Menominee,
Mich.; Lindsay and West Point, Neb., retiring to Holy Family Convent in 1971.
Survivors include a sister, Miss Amanda Filey, of Petoskey and a nephew, the Rev.
LaVerne Flach, of Chicago.
Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, was in charge of arrangements.
