Frederick "Fred" P. Wegner, age 81, of Kiel died Sunday morning, June 27, 2010 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
He was born April 6, 1929 in the town of Herman, son of the late Walter & Viola (Brass) Wegner.
Fred was born again of water and the Spirit as an infant on May 19, 1929 at St. John's Evangelical Church, Schwartzwald. He confessed his baptismal faith in the Rite of Confirmation on April 2, 1944, also at St. John's.
Fred was a 1947 graduate of Kiel High School.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country in the Counter Intelligence Corp., European Theater, from 1951 to 1953.
On May 8, 1954 he married Jacqueline S. Willadsen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls.
Fred was employed at Stoelting Inc, Kiel, for 44 years, retiring in 1991 as Sales Manager, Dairy Equipment Division.
During his employment at Stoelting Inc., Fred was an active member of the Wisconsin & U.S. Cheesemakers Association, the International Trade Committee of the Food & Dairy Industry Supply Association, the American Cultured Dairy Products Association, and served as a cheese judge for the Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation contest. He saw a growth of export sales at Stoelting Inc., receiving the Presidential "E" in 1974 and "E" Star awards for excellence in export. He also introduced the cheese block former to U.S. market-Lake-to-Lake, as well as the introduction of "Verti-Stir" cottage cheese making system and the advancement in product engineering and design.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, having previously served as treasurer and council member, and actively participating in other church affairs until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Quit Qui Oc Monday night golf league and Crystal Lake Friday night couples league. He was a Secretary for both leagues.
During his lifetime he served as President of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce, Kiel School District Board of Education, Kiel Chamber Board of Directors, City of Kiel Advisory Committee, and Board of Appeals. He also was a member of The Kiel VFW Post #6707, and a volunteer and driver for the Kiel Senior Citizens program for many years.
Fred especially enjoyed golfing, including weekly outings with the "Trinity Trotters" and yearly couples golf trips to South Carolina and the Gulf Coast. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cribbage, canasta and sheepshead.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" of Kiel; two daughters, Wendy (John) Teisberg, St. Paul, MN and Jayne (Dean) Meyer, New Holstein; four grandchildren, Sasha (Brian) Kofke, Steamboat Springs, CO, Aric Streiber, rural Valders, Alicia Streiber, Vadnais Heights, MN, John Teisberg III, St. Paul, MN; five step- grandchildren, Eloise Teisberg (Ettore Giambetti), St. Paul, MN, Joshua (Sandra) Meyer, Fond du Lac, Jamie (Roberta) Meyer, LaVergne, TN, Andrea (Joshua) Ewald, Sheboygan Falls, Kate Meyer, Milwaukee; one great grandchild, Hawkin Kofke; and five step-great-grandchildren, Grace & Ella Meyer and Taylor, Owen & Chase Ewald. He is further survived by one brother, Edward (Isabel) Wegner, Plymouth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn (Fritzie) Willadsen, Sheboygan Falls, Betty Sippel, Plymouth, Sally (Tom) Reinemann, Sheboygan Falls; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, John Willadsen.
Funeral services for Fred will be held Friday, July 2, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Road, Kiel with Rev. David Laabs officiating.
Burial will take place in the Kiel City Cemetery.
