ROY J SISSON

Roy J. Sisson, 91, a former Kiel mayor who lived at the Sheboygan Retirement Home since 1970, died Sunday evening at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted earlier that day.

A retired educator, he served the Kiel Public Schools for 28 years and, after his retirement, served four terms as mayor of Kiel (1959 – 67)

Born March 8, 1887, in Prairie du Sac, the son of John and Addie Knight Sisson, Mr. Sisson graduated from Prairie du Sac High School and attended Whitewater State Teachers' College and received his Bh. B. Degree from the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Sisson was supervising principal at Bellair, Michigan, and later at Shell Lake, Wisconsin, prior to becoming principal in the Kiel Public School in 1931. He retired in 1959. Active in civic affairs he was a former secretary of the Kiel Municipal Band from 1951-58, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge at Prairie du Sac and a member of Kiel Lodge 281 Order of Eastern Star, was a charter member of the Kiel Kiwanis club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kiel.

He also had a park named after him at the east city limits of Kiel near the bridge between Kiel and Rockville. It was dedicated and named "Sisson Park" several years ago.

On June 23, 1915, he married Mary Gast in Genoa City, Walworth County. The couple resided in Gray Lake, Illinois, and moved to Kiel from Shell Lake in 1930. His wife died November 30, 1973.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Munger of Madison, a grandchild and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Joe V. Anderson, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Kiel Cemetery.
