George H. Greenwood was living on his parent's farm at East Kittitass, Yakima County, Washington, in 1880. George enlisted as a private in 1898 and was mustered into Company M, 43rd U.S. Volunteer Infantry. Private Greenwood served in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War and after the war he was transferred into Company H, 2nd California Infantry (National Guard), where he was promoted to sergeant. George married Alice Amanda Anderson (Sep. 29, 1887, CA-Apr. 27, 1945, CA) about 1908 and they were living in Fresno County, California, by 1910. When war was declared in April 1917, Sergeant Greenwood volunteered for active service and was transferred to Company G, 107th U.S. Infantry, and shipped off to France. He also served in the 159th U.S. Infantry. After the war he returned to Fresno, where he remained until his death in 1924. Alice filed for a widow's pension April 5, 1924, and received application No. 1,217,781 and certificate No. 953,320.
