Omaha Man Dies in War
An Omaha who planned to make the Army a career was killed in Vietnam April 10, the Defense Department notified his parents.
First Lieut. Ronald J. Wojtkiewicz, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Wojtkiewicz, 5323 B Street, died while on a combat operation near Chu Lai. He was a platoon leader in the First Air Cavalry Division.
Lieutenant Wojtkiewicz, who would have been 23 on May 17, entered the military service in September, 1965. In July, 1966, he attended Officer Candidate School at For Knox. Ky., and was commissioned January 9, 1967. He was promoted to first lieutenant in January while in Vietnam.
In March, Lieutenant Wojtkiewicz, wounded in the right arm, spent several weeks in a military field hospital. He recovered and returned to combat duty March 20, Mrs. Wojtkiewicz said.
He was a 1963 graduate of [Omaha] Technical High School.
