Duke is a female cat with short greenish brown hair and black tiger stripes on her tummy.
When I first met Duke she was probably 12 months old. I was walking my dog Buffy in our back yard at 6 am on 2 Feb. 2002. Duke was sleeping in the bushes near our bird bath. She joined us - not only to keep us company while walking but she was hungry and wanted to be fed.
Duke walked with us many many times and she ate many many times. Boy she could eat!!
I built a table with her 'home' on it in the carport so she wouldn't have to sleep on the ground.
Duke was content to be an outdoor cat and have her own home.
I called her Duke because she walked kinda sideways like John Wayne did in his movies.
I never could find her owner or where she came from. But, because of reasons NOT UNDER MY CONTROL I HAD to take her and her dishes, dry food, canned food, and medications to the Lakeland SPCA on 6 January 2004.
The lady at the SPCA said that Duke was adorable and adoptable and she was sure that Duke would find a new home.
I'll never know for sure because the policy at SPCA is not to tell the person who surrenders the animal its final disposition.
Duke was with me for 23 months and 5 days. She got along great with Frosty, our cat of 16 years and 4 months, during the last six months of Frosty's life.
Duke was a constant companion when Buffy and I were outside.
Duke will ~always~ be missed.
Just Like Sarge, Rocky, Casper, Buffy and Frosty.
Duke was a Great Companion. She was Precious. She was Loved. "noooooowww"
Lots Of Luck Dear Precious Duke...~always~
Duke and I will meet again on the 'RAINBOW BRIDGE'...
Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, sunshine and toys, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. Those who were abused or mal-treated have had their tears wiped away, and sit for as long as they want on the Golden Flowing Robes of God's Lap. They feel the touch of Pure Love on their heads and finally know happiness. All the animals are happy and content, except for one small thing - they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent and her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, she breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the "RAINBOW BRIDGE" together...
