Ocala - Mr. Leo Henry Armstrong, 100, passed away in Ocala, Florida on January 29, 2009. He was born in the Township of Louriston, Minnesota. He was known as a beloved principal and teacher in the Marion County public and private schools. He was an avid UF Gator fan. He was a charter member of the Lake Weir Kiwanias Club and had a 40 year perfect attendance record. A member of Weirsdale Presbyterian Church for 66 years. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts and was a Scout Master for a number of years. He graduated from University of Florida in 1932 with a Bachelors Degree then later obtained in 1940 a Masters degree from Duke University. He also did graduate work at University of Florida, Columbia University and Franklin and Marshall University. He moved to Florida in 1909 from Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Nell, a daughter Martha May Zamlut and a son Tolliver Armstrong. He is survived by his son Russell Armstrong of Ormond Beach, Florida. He left six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A gathering of friends will take place on Wednesday February 4th from 10-11AM with services to follow at 11AM at the Weirsdale Presbyterian Church. Roberts Downtown Chapel 606 SW 2nd Ave. in Ocala, Fl. (352) 622-4141 made the arrangements. The family would appreciate if some donations could be made to the Leo Armstrong Kiwanis Scholarship Fund 13033 SE 158 Lane, Weirsdale, Fl. 32195.
