A Forgotten Cemetery

East Washita Cemetery is an almost forgotten cemetery. This Cemetery is located at Washita, Ark. at the boat dock, where highway 88 meets highway 27. It is located on top of a steep hill, covered with trees and brush. Trash is everywhere, and people have ridden their 3 wheelers, etc. up the hill through the old cemetery. There are a few headstones left, but not many. If this abuse continues, this cemetery will disappear forever. People known to be buried here are Sadie Josephine Whittington - Chapmond, wife of Alfred B. Chapmond. They also have two babies buried here. Franklin D. Cothern, husband of Dora E. Chapmond is here. Drew Wallace and his wife Patience Wallace are also here. As of now, Drew Wallace is the last one I know of being buried here. He was buried in 1909. I suspect that Alvinia "Allie" Vanderslice - Chapmond is buried here along with others. Allie was born 1852 and died between 1879 and 1883. She married Thomas L. Chapmond , Oct. 26, 1873 in Sulphur Springs Township. She was the Mother of Alfred B. Chapmond, Dora E. Chapmond, Louisa E. "Lura" Chapmond.
Thomas L. Chapmond married Almeda M. Irons July 22 , 1883 after Allie died. And by the 1900 Census they had 9 children , only 3 living at that time . So where were their 6 other children buried. Thats right !! East Washita Cemetery. Think about it...... Chapmondville was located in Sulphur Springs Township.
