William I. Follas, 85, died May 18, 2010, at Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.
He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Van Wert County to Orwell and Bessie Bowman Follas, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 28, 1950, he married Carol Sue Maxon, who survives in Paulding.
Mr. Follas was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korean, serving as sergeant and first lieutenant. He was employed as a teacher for Antwerp, Grand Rapids, Paulding, Payne and Stryker schools for 37 years. He was a substitute teacher for 20 years. He coached basketball, golf, baseball, and football and was an athletic director. He was also a bus driver, driver-education teacher, and industrial arts teacher. He was a member of Paulding United Methodist Church, Lions Club; Paulding Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 587, and the Stryker American Legion post.
Survivors also include two sons, Daniel (Kathy) Follas, of Indianapolis, and Evan (Deb) Follas, of Fishers, Ind.; two daughters, Marsha (Jim) Henderson, of Paulding, and Billie Sue (Tim) Lengacher, of Leo, Ind.; three brothers, Dale Follas and Elbert (Grace) Follas, both of California, and Donald Follas, of Arlington; two sisters, Patsy (John) Kirkendall and Connie (Gary) Plummer, both of Elida; a sister-in-law, Marlene Follas, of Van Wert; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Bob "Wheaties" Follas.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Paulding United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ben Lowell will officiate. Burial will be in Paulding Memorial Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 587.
