My father, Irving was the son of George W. Loewit (1889-1962) and Sadye Friedman Loewit (1888-1968).
Irving joined the Merchant Marines during World War II. He helped to take supplies to many countries overseas on different Liberty Ships.
Irving finished his education at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH in 1950. He graduated as an optometrist. He became the 3rd generation optometrist in the Loewit family.
He married a lady named Genevive in the 1950s. He had two sons by that marriage and legally adopted his wife's son from her previous marriage. He later divorced his first wife at the end of the 1950s. He married his 2nd wife, Arvadia McCummins in 1961. She had three children from a previous marriage that Irving later legally adopted. Arvadia and Irving had one child together, Jil (me).
Irving was an optometrist in the Girard, OH area and then moved the family to the Dayton, OH area in the 1960s. He opened up and ran several optometry stores called "Optical Fashion Centers", which are still in business today in the Dayton area. He was also the head optometrist for many of the stores. One of his daughters later became an optometrist and joined him at Irving's business.
Irving enjoyed planting trees and flowers, travelling to many countries in the world, and collecting art.
