Robert S. Van Etten, 76, of Oswego, passed away at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora on January 22, 1997. He was born on April 29, 1920 in Bath, Illinois, the son of the late Harold and Caroline Van Etten. Bob was a graduate of Oswego High School Class of 1938 and attended the University of Illinois in Chicago. Bob served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific and China for 28 months during WWII. Bob was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Oswego American Legion Post #675, Carpenters Union Local #1889 of Downers Grove, Illinois. Bob had served as a Cub Scout Leader of Pack #331 in Oswego. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edythe (Roach); six children, Ronald (Kathy) Van Etten of Bloomington, IL, Cynthia (Terry) Czernysz of Gurnee, IL, Martin Van Etten of Aurora, IL, Roger (Dawn) Van Etten of Oswego, IL, Randall (Laura) Van Etten of Aurora, IL, and Janet Van Etten of Van Nuys, CA; seven grandchildren, Vikki, Raymond, Michael, Mary, Lynette, Rudy, Emmelia; four great grandchildren, Chris, Gary, Jr., Antony, Darnell; four sisters, Dorothy (August) Seidelman of Oswego, Enid (William) Haacker of New Jersey, Mary Lucas of Oswego and Nancy (Gary) Weaver of New Auburn, Wisconsin; two brothers, Harold Van Etten of Plano, IL and Warren (Joyce) Van Etten of Inverness, FLA and several nieces and nephews. He was proceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 1997 at 11 am at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Oswego with Rev. Rob Benson officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 1997 at the McKeown-Dunn Funeral Home, Ltd. in Oswego from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Burial will take place at the Pearce Cemetery in Oswego. Oswego American Legion Post #675 will conduct military graveside honors. Memorials may be directed to either the Church of the Good Shepherd or the American Heart Association.
