Charles Lawrence was born in Dallas, the son of Charles Reeb (1861 - 1918) and
Marie Magdaline Schott Reeb (1866 - 1937).
His father immigrated to the United States in 1880 from the Alsace Lorraine area of France, and his mother immigrated in 1870 with her parents from the same area. Charlie then was the first generation American. He and his father Charles returned to visit family in Paris, Strasburg and Ingweiler, France, in 1906.
Charlie enlisted in the Army in World War I and spent his service serving as an auto electrician at Camp Mabry, Austin, training soldiers to service army vehicles in the battle fields of war .
He met his future wife, Thelma, when they both worked for Hillie Automotive. They married June 30, 1920, living in a small house next to the Reeb family in Arcadia Park on the Fort Worth Pike. As Charlie and Thelma's family increased, they outgrew the little house and built a larger home across the highway on Tillery Street. They had 15 children, including two boys who died as children. The Reeb family lived in the Tillery Street house until the 1970's when they moved to Garland.
He was a devout Catholic and attended St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Cockrell Hill. Charlie served as a president of the VFW local chapter, and at Christmas, Charlie played Santa in the American Legion Christmas parties and called numbers at bingo. He was a longtime volunteer at the Veteran's Hospital in Dallas.
Charlie and Thelma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1970.
He died December 21, 1992, more than a month after celebrating his 100th birthday. He was buried on Christmas Eve next to his wife, Thelma, in Calvary Hill, Dallas.
