MARIE BULL
La Grande
1911-1999

Marie (Young) Bull, 87, died Monday, November 15, 1999 at a La Grande nursing home.

A viewing will be until 8 p.m. today at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1509 Fourth St., La Grande. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel with Rev. Susan V. Smith-Allen officiating. At Mrs. Bull's request, there will be no graveside service. The interment service will be for family only. A reception will follow the funeral at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Bull was born November 18, 1911, in Wright County, Missouri, to Herman E. and Artie V. (Garner) Young. The family moved to Oregon in April 1918 and lived on a farm in Morrow County.

Mrs. Bull graduated from Pine City High School in 1929 and entered Eastern Oregon Normal School that fall. She graduated in 1931 with the first class to complete the full two years at the new school.

After teaching school for a year she married Paul C. Bull of La Grande October 2, 1932, at the home of her brother in The Dalles. The couple lived in Portland for four months before returning to La Grande.

She became a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in 1934 and has been active in various groups, especially the Altar Guild.

After her husband began working for the railroad, Mrs. Bull joined the Ladies Society of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Enginemen and was active in the society until it disbanded and became E. L. F. S. social club.

At 47, Mrs. Bull learned to bowl and bowled in two women's leagues and a mixed league. She was league secretary from 1959 to 1978 and continued to bowl until 1986 when hip surgery and arthritis forced her to be less active. She was a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress for 25 years.

Mrs. Bull also enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and working crossword puzzles.

The Bulls were charter members of the Mount Emily Good Sams, a recreational vehicle club. They enjoyed many outings with the group and took trips to many states and national parks.

Survivors include her husband of La Grande; daughter, Beverley Garrison of Redmond; son, Robert Bull of La Grande; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a half-brother and a half-sister, Robert H. Young and Juanita Sweet, both of Junction City, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Peter's Endowment Fund in care of Loveland.
