Whitson Bell's birth on Aug 31, 1876 was attested to by his sister, Janet Whitson Bell's affidavit, his birth certificate having never been located by the Province. He was the youngest of the four Bell children joining William, Jane Ann and Janet. The family lived in Galt continuously except for a short period in Wingham. Mr Bell attended the Galt Collegiate Institute. He also played in the old city baseball league in the late 1890's with one of the club teams even trying out for the New York Yankees. He prospected in the Northwest Territories and lumbered in Northern Ontario before marrying Agnes Jane McAuslan and settling in Transcona, Manitoba where he worked in real estate and insurance. Hard economic times brought him back to Galt. The mid-1920's saw the family finally settled in Detroit. He was known as a loving family man with an adventurous spirit and a sharp wit who enjoyed the outdoors.
