Sam Carter, Sr. drown prior to 1850 in the War Eagle River near Huntsville, Arkansas. After his death, Celia and her children moved to Harmony, Johnson County, Arkansas. In the 1850 Census, she and her children were listed in the Horsehead Township, living with her parents.
In December of that year, Celia married William Jefferson Lee, son of Cader Lee, in Clarksville, Arkansas. William Jefferson Lee was a widower, as he had lost his spouse a short time earlier in 1850.
William Jefferson's first wife was Gillentine Cooper before they married, so she was probably related to Celia Cooper Carter's family in some way.
William Jefferson and Gillentine had several young children at the time of her death. Celia became a mother to those children and helped finish raising them.
