My grandmother Julia was married three times, first to Stanley Preston whom she divorced, then to Earl Mesner who died, and then to Juan Esconbedo (sp?) whom she divorced. She was in the silent films for a short while before marrying her first husband who was the father of Richard Preston and my mother Marian. After they divorced, my mother went to live with her great aunt Gertude Phillips and her husband Frederick who eventually adopted her.
During her marriage to Earl Mesner, they owned a confectioner's shop next to the Blue Island, Illinois movie theater before relocating to Park Ridge, Illinois where they again operated a candy shop. When I visited their candy shop, she would give me a big bag to fill up. What a candyland it was! Later she grew tired of it and operated a dressmaking shop for many years before retiring to Florida after her husband's death.
She and Earl had two children: John and Barbara Mesner. John owned a fishing snapper, shrimp, and lobster company in Brazil where he married a Brazilian lady, and they had three children.
Barbara married Milton Jordan by whom she had three children. For many years they lived in Boone, North Carolina where they owned a farm. They retired to Florida.
In Florida Julia married a Cuban refugee but they divorced several years later.
