My grandmother Julie is buried next to her second husband Earl Mesner, and for this reason I am using Mesner as her surname at this memorial. This was the marriage that was important to her, and she preferred to go by either Julie Vose or Julie Mesner.
She was married three times, first to Stanley Preston whom she divorced, then to Earl Mesner who died, and then to Juan Escobedo whom she divorced. She was in the silent films for a short while before marrying her first husband Stanley Preston who was the father of Richard Preston and my mother Marian. After they divorced, my mother went to live with her great aunt Gertude Phillips and her husband Frederick who eventually adopted her.
During her marriage to Earl Mesner, they owned a confectioner's shop next to the Blue Island, Illinois movie theater before relocating to Park Ridge, Illinois where they again operated a candy shop. When I visited their candy shop, she would give me a big bag to fill up. What a candyland it was! I espcially remember her stirring a huge kettle of fudge. Later she grew tired of it and operated a dressmaking shop for many years before retiring to Florida after her husband's death.
She and Earl had two children: John and Barbara Mesner. John owned a fishing snapper, shrimp, and lobster company in Brazil where he married a Brazilian lady, and they had three children.
Barbara married Milton Jordan by whom she had three children. For many years they lived in Boone, North Carolina where they owned a farm. They retired to Florida.
