Sollie Clifton, Jr., age 68, of Owenton, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
Born September 16, 1942, in Henry County, he was the son of the late Edith Popp Clifton and Sollie Clifton, Sr. Also proceeding him in death were his siblings, Dave Clifton, Mary Ida Davis and Martha Clifton. Sollie was a retired Engineer Tech with the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Transportation Cabinet. He was also very active in the Owen County Volunteer Fire Department, the Search and Rescue Team and the Grand PAWS Search Dog Team. Sollie was also an Army Veteran, a member of the First Christian Church, a fire training instructor, a KY Admiral and the 1988 Owen Countian of the Year. Sollie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Glenna Rose Miller Clifton; his son, Tim (Amanda) Clifton of Owenton; his two brothers John & Gene Clifton of Owenton; one sister, Elvira Miller of Shipshewana, IN; and three grandchildren, Sarah, Brianna and Harley Dakota Clifton.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday from 10am until 3pm. Funeral services will follow at 3pm with Bro. Johnny Thomas, Bro. Jimmy Gray and Bro. Greg Guy presiding. Sollie's family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The Patriot Guard Riders, First Christian Church or the Owen County Search and Rescue Team.
