Elizabeth McCreary was born on March 6, 1839 in Pittsburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth died on February 18, 1886 at the family home in Cliquot, near Bolivar, Missouri. She is buried in Salem Cemetery in Cliquot.

Elizabeth's parents were Samuel McCreary (1806-1871) and Elizabeth Reemsnyder McCreary (1813-1864). Samuel and Elizabeth had nine other children — Mary (1836-1874), Sarah (1838-1874), Henrietta (1843-1863), Susan (1843-1863), Julianne (1845-1917), Catherine (1847-1908), Malinda (1849-1912), Margaret (1851-1922) and Samuel (1853-1912).

On November 4, 1861, Elizabeth McCreary married George Washington Coberly (1827-1906) in Hancock County, Illinois.

George and Elizabeth had 13 children —Ada Mary King (1862-1942), Emma Elizabeth Thruston (1863-1931), Malinda Ann Norcross (1864-1918), Ollie Margaret Donovan (1866-1935), George Edward (1867-1946), Levi Jesse (1869-1960), Sarah "Sallie" Mangis (1871-1943), John Franklin (1872-1964), Robert Benjamin (1874-1944), Elizabeth Penelope Hill (1875-1966), Matilda Ellen (1878-1878), Delia Iantha (1878-1886) and Fredrick Joseph (1880-1948).

Initially, the family lived in Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois where their first four children were born. They moved to Chillicothe, Missouri and later moved to Cliquot, Polk County, Missouri where George, a farmer, and the family homesteaded a farm.

According to Thelma Coberly, "Elizabeth was a very attractive woman with wonderful grace and poise, 5 foot 3 or 4, with dark hair and expressive dark hazel eyes, a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh that was heard often. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She had a wonderful singing voice and played the piano. Unlike many women of her generation, she could read and write. She was an active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cliquot and took her family with her every Sunday."

Thelma added, "In February 1886, Elizabeth came down with a severe cold that quickly turned into pneumonia. It was so severe that she lived only four days and died at her home with her family around her."

Behold this grave, it doth embrace
A virtuous wife, with Rachel's comely face,
Sarah's obedience, Lydia's open heart
With Martha's care, and Mary's better part.
