Walter Grady "Buddie" Hooper Jr. 65, of Brevard, died Monday August 13, 1990, in Transylvania Community Hospital.

A native of Henderson County, he had lived in Transylvania County most of his life. He was the son of Eva Pace Hooper and the late Walter Grady Hooper Sr. He was also preceded in death by a Grandson, Christopher Edwin Hooper.He was also the Great, Great, Great Grandson of Revolutionary Soldier Absolom Hooper of Jackson County, NC. He was a member of Mills River Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Louise Stevens Hooper; two sons and their wives, Grady and Pat Hooper of Rockwood, Michigan, Steve and Brenda Hooper of Evensville, TN, two daughters and their husbands, Dorthy and Arthur Owen and Debbie and Ricky Maybin of Brevard and a sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Jack Bresnahan of Kingston, Tennessee and a brother and sister-in-law Tom and Katie Hooper of Brevard. He also is survived by the following grandchildren, Cary and Susan Hall, Andre Hall, Trisha and Greg Smith, Melissa, Kim and Crystal Hooper.

He was retired from Olin Corporation and was also a farmer. He raised crops for Gerber Baby food and also raised cattle. He was an avid sportmen, loving hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed traveling to Michigan to fish for walleye with his son Grady. He holds the record for the largest walleye caught by any family member a hugh 8 pounder!


A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Wednesday August 15 in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Kunsmen and Tommy Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 2100 Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, S.C. Moody-connolly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
