Walter Grady Hooper Sr.

Walter Grady Hooper Sr. passed away on May 9, 1975 at his home in the Calvert community of Brevard. He was born October 21, 1891 in Cashiers, North Carolina to the late John Andrew and Ruth Angeline Hooper.

He was a farmer in Mills River and in Brevard, raising cattle, corn and hay and a member of the Mt. Moriah Calvert Baptist Church and an inactive deacon.

He was a World War 1 Veteran, Serving in the United States Army and a member of American Legion Post No. 88. He was also the Great, Great Grandson of Revolutionary War soldier Absolom Hooper of Jackson County.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Eva Pace Hooper, a daughter, Ruth Bresnahan and her husband Jack, sons Walter Jr. and his wife Louise and Thomas and his wife Katy, granddaughters, Dorthy Ann Hall, Debbie Hooper, Marie Hooper, Jean Hautau, Grandsons Walter Grady Hooper III, Steven E. Hooper, Thomas L. Hooper and Walter M. Bresnahan. Three great grandsons and three great granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Nora Johnson, Sarah Sinclair, Viola Galloway and brothers, Dr. John Hooper, Dennis Hooper, Mack Hooper, Andrew Willard and Frank Hooper.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home. The Revs. Eddie Pettit and Donald Dix officiated. Burial was in Pisgah Gardens. Deacons and adult men at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church were honorary pallbearers.
