Mr. John Edison Rogers

John Edison Rogers, 85, of Brevard, NC, died Sunday July 19, 1987. He was a native of Macon County, NC, and had lived in Transylvania County since 1940. He was the son of the late Robert Hugh Rogers and Roxianna Guffey Rogers and the great- great- great grandson of Hugh Rogers, Revolutionary War Patriot. He was preceded in death by one brother and his wife, Charlemaigne and Minnie Rogers; two sisters, Fannie Margaret Rogers and Mary Belle Rogers Gribble and her husband Hardin and a great granddaughter, Callie Marie Owen. He formerly was employed by Tallulah Falls Railroad and retired in 1966 from Olin Corporation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and reading his Bible.

Surviving are his loving wife, of 52 years, Helen Belle Stiles Rogers; one son and his wife Bill and Velma Rogers of Etowah; four daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and Furman Owen, Frances and Carroll Jones, Ruby and Donald Sprouse all of Brevard, and Pat and Grady Hooper of Rockwood, Michigan; ten grandchildren: James, Stanley and Robert Owen, Brack and Mark Rogers, Valerie Bigelow, Eddie and Christina Sprouse, and Trisha and Melissa Hooper; and five great grandchildren: Cassie Osteen, Cole, Christy and Ameran Owen, Christopher Shepherd, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 P. M. Tuesday in New Hope Baptist Church of which he was a charter member. The Rev. Earl Payne will officiate. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P. M. Monday at Moore Funeral Home
Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church building fund.
