Harriet Elizabeth Black Scharf
Birth: Jun. 10, 1893
Baldwin City
Douglas County
Kansas, USA
Death: Mar. 22, 1939
Perry County
Pennsylvania, USA

Harriet Elizabeth BLACK Scharf was born Jun. 10, 1893, in Prairie City, which later became Baldwin City, Douglas County, Kansas. She was the second of five children born to Harry James Black and Eva Jane ASHBY Black. They lived on a farm in Kansas. When Harriet was twelve years old the family moved to Colorado. By 1920, Harriet was a comptometer operator, living in a boarding house in Pueblo City, Colorado according to the census which also confirmed that Harriet was born in Kansas. Harriet married Rev. James M. Scharf on Sept. 22, 1926, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They had two children, Marjorie and Barbara.

*A researcher accidentally placed Harriet's three brothers in her family as if they were her sons. This has been repeated in many genealogy records, but it is an error.

The following obituary has some inaccuracies, but it's nice to find an article from 1939 anyway! Thank you John Hileman for your research! J.L.
