Carrie Marie Power Brookover Sless
Carrie was the daughter of James T. Power and Sarah Elizabeth Morelock Power.
Her first husband Frank Brookover died in 1908 leaving her a young widow with three children. She was unable to care for them so Colin, her oldest boy went to live with a "foster" family and Doris and David were sent to the St. Anthony's Home for Infants. Doris died during her stay and I have found no records on what became of David.
Carrie worked as a servant for a doctor and his family, she was a very skilled seamstress.
When Carrie married her second husband Henry Sless, she regained custody of Colin. Together she and Henry had two more children, George and Virginia.
In 1923, Carrie left her husband and took Colin, George and Virginia to Glendale, California, where she worked as a dressmaker.
She was a registered Democrat.
She died at age 61, she was as a patient at Camarillo State Mental Hospital. The cause of death was Syphilis which had affected her central nervous system and caused madness.
