John Watterberg Passes Away at Home of His Daughter in Sanish

Remains Brought to Wolverton for Burial

Funeral Held Last Wednesday From Old Home—Interment at Deerhorn

Wilkin County is fast losing her pioneer settlers. On Saturday, July 18th, John Watterberg died at Sanish, N.D., of old age.

Mr. Watterberg was born November 24, 1845, and would have been 80 years old had he lived until November. He was born in Gettenborg, Sweden, and came to this country while yet a young man he settled in Richland county, but in later years moved to Deerhorn township. He bought the home he lived in and was there until about 3 years ago. His health started to fail then and he went to Sanish, to live with a daughter, Mrs. Ed Larson.

He was united in marriage to a Miss Swenson and eight children were born to them, namely: Fred (Fritz) of Minneapolis, Axel, Sarah, (Mary) Mrs. Ed Larson, and Louise of Sanish, N.D., (Ada) Mrs. Knudson of Gully, Minn., Charley of Alberta, Canada, Annie, died of flu in 1918, and Conrad an adopted son in Washington. All but Charley, Louise and Conrad were in attendance at the funeral.

The remains were shipped here and funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 2 p.m. at his home, now the Dennison place. Rev. Muus officiated. Interment was made in the Deerhorn cemetery near his wife who died about 11 or 12 years ago.

Pall bearers were: Ted Edenstrom, John Hult, Ed. Nordholm, Oscar Nording, Gus Westerland, Gus Lungren.

In the passing of this old settler Wilkin county has lost one of its best men, and there isn't an acquaintance but feels he has lost a sincere good friend. He was loved and respected by all. Life was just one round of joking, laughing and sunshine when he was present.

Sympathy is extended to the remaining children who have lost a kind and good father.
