Lawrence Henry Warner
Birth: Aug., 1809
County Cork, Ireland
Death: Feb. 7, 1879
Suffolk County
Massachusetts, USA

Lawrence Henry Warner, son of John Warner and Ellen Leary, was baptized at Macroom, Cork Ireland, 17 August 1809. The family probably relocated; according to family stories, he used to play on the ships of the Earl of Waterford, and ran away to sea when he was 14 years old.

On 5 September 1834, at St. Leonard, Shoreditch, London, Lawrence Henry Warner married Maria Sarah Briggs, widow of William Briggs and daughter of William Bowkett. Her brother Dr. Thomas Bowkett of Poplar was sponsor. Lawrence and Maria Sarah had two children, Mary Sharp Warner and George Thomas Warner, and they lived for several years at 76 St. George's Road, Southwark, Surrey, where Lawrence was a cheesemonger and grocer. His wife died about 1853 (record not found) and the children went to live briefly with their uncle Thomas Bowkett. Lawrence may have gone out to sea again.

The 1855 census shows Lawrence listed as Henry Warner, ferryman, living at 8 Bowdoin St., Boston, with his children Mary and George. His daughter Mary Sharp Warner married her first cousin John Thomas Buckley, on 1 August 1855, and Lawrence probably went back out to sea.

Lawrence Henry Warner returned to England and married Sarah Fowler at St. Thomas in the parish of Stepney, Mile End Old Town, 25 March 1859. They had a daughter Katherine Elizabeth Warner, born 20 March 1860 at 3 Mill Place, Limehouse, Stepney.

In 1861, Lawrence Warner was listed in the census with his wife Sarah and baby daughter Katherine Elizabeth at 18 Britannica Close, Lambeth, Surrey, England, selling beer in a beer house. A few years later, Katherine Elizabeth Warner emigrated to Boston and was married in Boston to Lewis Lombard, and they had a son Frank Irving Lombard. She died at the age of 24 years, and is buried with the Lombard family in the famous Mount Auburn cemetery, across the wall from her father.

Lawrence Henry Warner died at the age of 70 years, at 123 M. Street, South Boston, and is buried in one of the Buckley plots, G1R6West, although the records of the undertaker Mr. Patrick Denvir, are confusing.
