Isaac Earl Imes
Birth: Apr. 12, 1892
Montrose County
Colorado, USA
Death: Feb. 26, 1956
Maricopa County
Arizona, USA

Isaac Earl is the son of Isaac Butler Imes and Permelia Venora Imes and one of 11 children. Isaac was born in Montrose, CO in 1892 and lived with his parents and siblings in Sawpit, Colorado. Isaac graduated from Telluride High School, on May 31, 1912 and was first in his class. The family moved to Arizona when many of the children were young. Isaac received a Life Certificate to teach for life from Tempe Normal School on June 5, 1914. Tempe Normal School, in Tempe, Arizona, became Tempe State Teacher's College in 1925, then Arizona State College at Tempe in 1945, and later renamed Arizona State University in 1958. Isaac began his teaching career in Arizona in September, 1914 and taught for 2 1/2 years. Isaac was a teacher and later Principal at Arlington School in Arizona. After the beginning of World War I, Isaac enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Isaac served in Germany and France during World War I. Isaac was in five major battles until the Armistice was signed, and was cited for bravery in carrying the dead and wounded from the battlefield under heavy gun fire. Isaac was given the Croix de Guerre, a Fourragere, and an emblem for the battles he fought in during World War I. When Isaac's group arrived back in New York, there were no cheering crowds, no ticker tapes, but as they sat on a lawn waiting, President Woodrow Wilson shook each one of them by hand and thanked them. Only 200 came back. In 1919, Isaac began teaching in Glendale in the Glendale Elementary School district. Isaac graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado on August 22, 1931. Isaac was a beloved teacher who dedicated his life to helping his students and young people in the Glendale School District. If a student was needy whether it be school supplies, clothes, or other necessary supplies, Isaac would see that the student had whatever he or she needed. The newspaper article from a Glendale newspaper following Isaac's death is titled "Youth Loses Friend By Death Of Mr. Isaac Imes". A school in the Glendale School District in Arizona is named the Isaac E. Imes School in his honor. Isaac was a very kind, patient, and good person and everyone loved Isaac. Isaac married Harriette Frances Salsman Voss on December 17, 1938 in Florence, AZ. Harriette had two children from a previous marriage, Laverna Lucille Voss and Valerie Virginia Voss. Harriette and Isaac lived in Glendale, AZ after their marriage.
