Born in French Lick to Albert & Dessie (Mickler) Bledsoe, with a sister Kathryn. Albert died in 1968 and Dessie in 1969.
Wed Lawrence Melvin Heckler from West Baden October 18, 1942, and traveled far and wide with Melvin being in the U.S. Navy for 21 years.
Ruth & Melvin had three children, Jerry Lynn, Monty Lynn, and Chiquita Leilania Heckler.
Ruth claimed to have had 6 marriages. Included were Navy men Melvin Heckler (twice) from Indiana & Bobby G. Mitchell of Texas.
Ruth was merely 17 when son Jerry Lynn died at 13 mos. old from an accidental fall over the arm of a children's rocking chair.
In 1980 she moved to Ft. Myers, FL to be near her family after her son Monty's tragic death from suicide a few months earlier.
She worked as a volunteer grandmother in the elementary school system in Ft. Myers, aiding young children with their reading.
Ruth was killed in a car wreck when hit by another in Ft. Myers, FL on May 12, 1999, as she was driving that morning on her way to an elementary school.
Surviving her was daughter Chiquita and husband Larry (Bobby) Baker, their three children and Ruth's four great grandchildren, all in Florida.
Also surviving are her widowed daughter-in-law Rita (Marshall) Heckler, her two children and Ruth's one great grandchild, all in Florida.
