Michael (originally Michal; also called Mike in the U.S.) was born in Lezachow, Sieniawa Parish, Rzeszow, present-day Poland. He was trained as a rattan furniture maker, and relocated to Trencin, Slovakia, to teach his trade there. One of his students was Karol (Charles) Miskovic, who introduced Michael to his sister Alzbeta (Elizabeth) K. Miskovic. Michael and Alzbeta were married on 16 Feb. 1904 in Nove Mesto nad Vahom, Trencin, Slovakia.
Michael visited Boston in 1905. He returned to the U.S. on 17 May 1909 aboard the S.S. Lapland. He then traveled back to Slovakia and returned to New York in 1912 on the S.S. George Washington (his wife and children following him a few months later). He was listed as an operator in the 1915 New York State Census, living at 403 Pleasant Ave., New York City. He was listed as a laborer in the 1925-26 Elizabeth city directories.
He and his family moved from New York City to Rahway, Union Co., NJ (he purchased property there in 1919). But his naturalization took place in New York Co., NY, on 10 June 1921. In 1922, the family relocated to Elizabeth, Union Co., NJ. On 21 Sep. 1926, he and his wife purchased 96 Locust Avenue, Wallington, Bergen Co., NJ, where the family lived and operated a grocery store.
Michael died of liver cancer at the age of 59.
